Sustainable design is a key focus of our work. We believe in regenerative projects that use the land and resources available to us to benefit our community, our environment and future generations.
Tenblock’s pathways to sustainable living:
Active Transportation
We aspire to be Toronto’s most cycling-supportive developer. Our projects feature reduced vehicle parking, instead prioritizing public bike cafés, high-quality bike and gear storage, next-generation security and access, wash and repair stations, and facilities that support all types of bikes, e-bikes, cargo bikes, and more.
Retrofitting
Creating infill housing presents the opportunity to retrofit existing buildings as their surroundings are renewed. This includes investments in on-site power generation, envelope and building systems, active transportation facilities, tree planting and landscaping, and new amenities for existing residents.
Geo-exchange
Our buildings tap into earth’s thermal reserves, accessed through deep boreholes that facilitate heat exchange to condition the air and water in our buildings. This simple and reliable technology allows us to build more housing within the same envelope, while decreasing our buildings’ ongoing carbon emissions and operating costs.
Building Performance
Tenblock embraces Toronto’s Net Zero Strategy and develops sustainable homes with special attention to envelope performance, thermal bridging, air sealing, structural design, limiting underground garages, on-site power generation, and reducing operating emissions by supporting active transportation and walkability.
